Safety

The UL Safety Advisors Pick a Team as "#1 for Pit Safety" at Competitions, and at our very first competition we were awarded this honor!

During competitions and in your build space it is important to have several items on hand at all times. A copy of FIRST's official Safety Manual should be on hand at all times when working as a FIRST team. A copy of the 2017 Manual can be found here: FIRST 2017 Safety Manual.

The team should also have a First Aid Kit, MSDS Sheets, SOPs, Incident report forms, Fire Extinguisher, Spill Kit, signage for; safety glasses, entanglement hazards, and battery charging areas easily seen. The Pit and work area should stay organized and tidy.

It is also important to have several members of the team First Aid Certified and or trained.

Safety is very important not only at competitions, but also every day in your workshop. FIRST requires that all teams have a Safety Captain. This individual is responsible for making sure safe practices are followed at all times. At least once a year, team safety captains must make a presentation to their team about safety (why it is important and what are the best practices).  Bull City Botics also shares Safety during our outreach events.
